We are looking for qualified native English teachers who will be responsible for applying prescribed lesson plans, and delivering enjoyable English classes to students at our partners’ private language institutions in China.
You will teach children aged 4 to 16 years old or adults aged 16 to 50 years old. The class size may vary from 4, to 15 students depending on the school you are matched with. Lesson plans or syllabus are usually provided, but it may be necessary to prepare yourself for slight changes.

Yes! While completing your application, please list any teaching experience you may have – even if it is informal, like tutoring or camp counseling. While teaching experience does help make you a competitive candidate, it is not a requirement. Please include all work experience in your resume.
Absolutely! While a TEFL certificate will make you a competitive candidate, it is not required to apply.
There are placements available year round. The most popular times to begin are Fall and Spring.
The application process typically takes 2-3 months – from interview to arrival. Please plan to apply 2-3 months before you are available to depart.
Placements are available in Hangzhou and Beijing. You can indicate your preference for teaching level – from elementary students to adults.
You are expected to work 40 hours per week – inclusive of planning and preparation time.
Yes! You will receive all Chinese national public holidays off, plus 5 personal days per year to use for vacation.
You will have a legal Z working visa.
You can! Hangzhou has several international schools for your children to attend. Please do note that these international schools often have steep tuition costs, so please plan accordingly. It helps to offset tuition fees if you are able to travel with a spouse who also plans to secure a teaching position. We can help find suitable placements for couples as well!

Our offices offer monthly professional development and cultural workshops for all of our English teachers. This gives you the chance to make the most of your experience, while learning about the local culture and meeting other English teachers in the area. Introductory Mandarin is also included in the monthly workshops!
For a single teacher, the apartment provided will be a one bedroom or a studio – with a private kitchen and bathroom. Couples teaching may receive larger apartments. Some schools choose to provide a housing allowance in lieu of a pre-chosen apartment. If your school provides this a housing allowance, Xplore staff will help you secure housing close to your school, within budget.
You will be invited to monthly professional development and cultural workshops with other English teachers in the area. This is a great way to get to know your new community!
Yes! It is not required that you have experience teaching English before arriving. Monthly professional development and cultural workshops will help get you off on the right foot! Our staff is also local and available to help provide extra support if needed.
